Who We Are

WELCOME TO THE BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INDONESIA

The British Chamber of Commerce has been established since 1999 and builds on a British business presence that extends more than a hundred years.

Over those years, we have had the pleasure of welcoming the most influential politicians, business leaders, world commentators, renowned experts in various fields and academicians as guests to over various forums. Last year, we hosted more than one hundred events that provided broad platforms for business development amongst our members.

Working in partnership with the British Embassy (DIT) and the British Council, whose senior representatives sit on our Board of Management, BritCham is committed to developing a services infrastructure that supports all stages of business development right from their inception in Indonesia.

To our members and a wider business community, we represent an independent and reliable source of information on issues. This covers politics, current affairs, security, health, inside-track analysis from our business sector groups, advocacy, personal and social development. In addition, the Chamber provides tremendous media opportunities for promoting and advertising to a dynamic business community.

Although British in name, our BritCham community is far from exclusively British. The integrity of the BritCham brand attracts members, sponsors and advertisers with roots from all over the globe and most pleasingly, from our host country, Indonesia.

We proudly remain the only foreign business group with a community port polio, Giving Kids a Sporting Chance-now in its 10th years.

Indeed, through the establishment of Britain in South East Asia (BiSEA), opportunities are expanding in a regional context.

Whether you are an SME in the UK looking at opportunities in Indonesia or an established business here, the only way to truly appreciate the value of membership is to take the first step and join our dynamic informational business community.

Thank you for your visit.

VISION & MISSION

BritCham’s mission statement is: "to actively promote, encourage and assist the continuation and growth of trade and investment relations between Indonesia and Britain."

BritCham’s principal objectives in achieving its mission are to:

  • Represent the interests, in Indonesia, of British business, particularly to Government and other key decision makers.
  • Keep the membership informed of economic and political developments.
  • Assist UK companies, especially SME’s, with market entry. To find Indonesian partners for British exporters and investors.
  • Promote the contribution being made by British business activities to the development of Indonesia.

As the non-government organisation that represents Britain in Indonesia, BritCham is an associate member of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and is attempting to forge stronger links with key Government ministries and departments. It is our aim to ensure that the interests of a continued strong business relationship between the UK and Indonesia are taken into account in the formulation of policy and legislation impacting on trade and investment. It was anticipated that our move to a Chamber of Commerce would strengthen our impact in this regard. The formation of a range of focus groups within the Chamber ensure that BritCham’s inputs are targeted and well advised.

BritCham has continued to publish its Handbook (formally the Guide to British Business in Indonesia), which has proved to be an invaluable aid both to new comers in the market as well as to businesses already established in Indonesia.

BritCham’s vision for the future, is to further improve our delivery of professional and efficient services to our members as well as to those UK and Indonesian companies and individuals wishing to develop business between the two countries. To achieve this we have continued to implement an ambitious expansion programme to improve our resources, further develop our website and expand our range of market access services.

We look forward to the continuing support of those in the British and Indonesian business communities who have an interest, as we do, in nurturing the growth of the bilateral business relationship, particularly as the Indonesian economy moves steadily forward in its pursuit of a top ten place among the largest economics of the world.
