Internship Opportunity at the British Chamber of Commerce Indonesia

We are offering an exciting and unique opportunity based in our office in Jakarta, for British students or graduates who may be interested in a career overseas.


At BritCham, we offer a flexible internship programme that equips interns with the knowledge and skills of working in a truly international environment in a global business context.


BritCham are seeking interns that are currently studying for or have graduated from, a bachelor’s/master’s degree in International Relations, Business Management, Marketing/Communications, International Development. Preferably, a candidate with a broad interest in international trade & investment relations, keeping up to date with contemporary global economic and political issues, business development promotion for SMEs.


Generally, our interns stay for a minimum of 6 months, but if you wish to stay for a longer time period, this is flexible and negotiable.


Job Role


Your job role is diverse and flexible, we want to accommodate your interests within our team.

Generally, you will assist as the intern across a range of business units, including our marketing, communications & events teams to represent the interests, in Indonesia, of British business, to Government and other key decision makers. This includes keeping the membership informed of economic and political developments.


You will also work within our ‘Overseas Delivery Partner’ service funded by the UK Department for International Trade, whose aim is to assist British companies in setting their businesses up or exporting into Indonesia. This involves assisting in the identification and dissemination of business opportunities to those who have an interest in developing business relations between Britain and Indonesia.


Your role will also include proof reading English language texts as required.


As with previous interns, your internship tasks can be adapted to fit your interests. For instance, one of our previous intern worked mainly within the communications team, assisting in the formation of the 2016/17 BritCham handbook which serves as a ‘guide to British business in Indonesia’. Whilst another intern researched for and wrote a report on trade issues facing British businesses investing in Indonesia.


All in all, Indonesia is a fast-growing and dynamic market with an ever-changing business environment. As part of your internship you will attend and participate in plenty of events, expos, conventions and networking events to help expand your knowledge of international business and trade relations.


Learning Objectives


  • Heightened knowledge within the field of economic development, more specifically the relationship between the UK and Indonesia.
  • You will also acquire an understanding of how Chambers of Commerce maintain key corporate and political relationships as needed to support and expand bilateral trade relations.
  • Alongside this, you will gain a deep insight into the sensitive but critical roles communications and research serve to helping potential investors to understand the challenging process of market expansion into an emerging market.
  • As our Overseas Delivery Partner team work closely with the British Embassy Jakarta, you will gain valuable experience in how the public and private sectors contribute to trade relations.



We do not offer a competitive salary. You will need to personally invest in this career and personal development opportunity. All interns receive a monthly stipend paid in local currency of 6 million Indonesian rupiah a month. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in the country, but may not be enough to cover all costs. We also do not cover the costs of your flight to and from Indonesia. We will arrange and pay for your visa, other legal requirements and regional travel as required


You will also be covered under our corporate domestic healthcare insurance programme and given a monthly phone allowance.
