Giving Kids a Sporting Chance

BRITCHAM HOSTS 400 KIDS FOR SOCCER FINALS
The British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham) was host on Sunday to 400 kids representing 12 of the 62 schools that have been participating in a Sunday Soccer League over the last 5 months. The kids, from among some of the poorer schools of West Java, played in a soccer finals at Gor Sumantri Stadium, Kuningan as the finale of one of BritCham's 'Giving Kids A Sporting Chance' community programmes.
There kids were treated to a feast of entertainment including a penalty shoot-out with guest Persija squad goalkeeper Iswan Karim, also an exhibition game between coaches of Asia Soccer Academy and an Expat XI drawn from the Expat Soccer League.
BritCham Executive Director Chris Wren said, "we take our community role very seriously. Aligning with soccer is also a logical fit because English soccer is a huge export with the EPL so popular among all Indonesians. The league has provided lots of opportunity for nearly 1000 children to participate in an organised league over recent months. They have learned team responsibility and personal discipline, as well as a healthy respect for other children from different schools, faiths and personal circumstances. Sunday itself was a huge success. Nearly all the visitors had never visited the capital. This will have been an unforgettable experience."
The Final was eventually won by SD Suka Sirna, Jonggol who beat SD Singga Jaya, Garut. Trophies were presented by members of the BritCham Board. After the sporting spectacle, the convoy of buses went on a tour of places of cultural interest around the capital escorted by the BritCham Executive Office team.
BritCham's FA Cup Final Extravaganza in May is the main fund-raiser for the 'Giving Kids A Sporting Chance' portfolio.
